1. Structure générale des questions

Points essentiels

📌 Pour construire une question commençant par un mot interrogatif en WH ou par how, on emploie généralement l’ordre mot interrogatif, auxiliaire, sujet, puis verbe.

Mot interrogatif → auxiliaire → sujet → verbe

2. Prépositions et questions sujet

★ À maîtriser

📌 Pour identifier le sujet de l’action, on utilise who ou what sans auxiliaire do, tandis que pour identifier le complément, on rétablit l’auxiliaire do.

Compléments

📌 Lorsqu’un verbe se construit avec une préposition, celle-ci se place habituellement après le verbe dans la question.

Question sur le sujet : pas d’auxiliaire do ; question sur le complément : auxiliaire rétabli

3. Mots interrogatifs en WH

★ À maîtriser

  • Pour identifier quelque chose parmi un grand nombre d’éléments, on utilise what.

📌 Pour faire un choix parmi un nombre limité d’éléments, on utilise which.

  • Pour interroger sur le temps, on utilise when.

  • Pour interroger sur le caractère ou l’apparence, on utilise what is ... like ou what does ... look like.

  • Pour interroger sur le but, on utilise what for ou why.

  • Pour interroger sur le lieu, on utilise where.

  • Pour interroger sur la possession, on utilise whose.

  • Pour interroger sur l’heure, on utilise what time.

4. Mots interrogatifs en HOW

★ À maîtriser

  • Pour interroger sur la manière, on utilise how.

  • Pour interroger sur la durée, on utilise how long.

📌 Pour interroger sur une quantité indénombrable au singulier, on utilise how much, tandis que pour interroger sur un nombre dénombrable au pluriel, on utilise how many.

  • Pour interroger sur la fréquence, on utilise how often.
